Dillingham is a small general aviation airfield located in Hawaii, used for recreational activities such as gliding and sky diving by day, and military activities by night. Featured in the television series Lost, Aerosoft have replicated it perfectly in Hawaii Dillingham X.
Naturally the visuals are superb. With 60cm/pixel photo scenery, high resolution mesh and excellent frame rates, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. There has been a lot of attention to detail put in, including 3d objects such as people, cars, refuelling facilities, and even the welcome sign!

Back onto frame rates, Aerosoft include optimum settings in the manual:
• Texture Resolution: The photo scenery underlying Dillingham is sampled at 60cm/pixel. To get the most out of it, set your Texture Resolution in the sim to 60 cm. Setting it to a lower setting, like 1m, will work but give you fuzzier ground textures.
• Road Traffic: If you have a rig capable of turning on traffic, setting your road traffic to 15% or so mimics the amount of traffic the road to Dillingham gets on an average day. This is not an urban area, but a bit of a drive out into the country. And the road that goes past the field dead-ends to the west of it. The scenery includes custom traffic paths designed to get the traffic flowing about right.
• Scenery Complexity: The 3D objects in the scenery are activated in two stages of complexity. At "normal", you see the buildings, some cars, and a few humans. “Dense" shows the rest.

Using these settings, I get a smooth 25fps, and my specs are only slightly above the system requirements:
• Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX + SP1
• Windows XP/Vista
• 2.0 GHz processor (Dual Core CPU highly recommended)
• 1 GB RAM internal memory (2 GB recommended)
• 256 MB graphic card (more highly recommended)

The manual contains what you’d expect; airfield and runway information, an introduction etc.
This highly accurate airfield is next to the real thing, with great performance too. Well done once again Aerosoft! It’s nice to melt away and relax in your glider above Hawaii, enjoying the scenery. And the price is relaxing too; at €14.95 (roughly £11.70 at time of writing) it’s a bargain. You won’t be disappointed, go see for yourself!
